Conditions of employment and career development
The Universiteit Leiden offers attractive conditions of employment based on the CAO of Dutch Universities. In addition to a yearly bonus of 8.3% (equal to a salary month), the University offers excellent opportunities for combining work and private life. For instance, with respect to working hours, we take your personal preferences into account, and you can apply for paid parental leave. In addition, academic staff members can work on the basis of an annual plan. In this way, Leiden University contributes to more freedom of choice.
Leiden University aims to achieve a leading position in the scientific community and in the world at large. The quality of our staff is a critical factor in our success. This holds true not only for the academic staff, but also for our supporting staff. The University wishes to contribute to this quality by offering a stimulating and inspiring work environment and by stimulating its staff members to follow programmes, training tracks and courses.
Getting the most out of education
High-quality education is essential for the University. Offering high-quality education is a skill in its own right; a skill that must be developed and maintained. Leiden University therefore supports its lecturers in acquiring their Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO).
The administration and management of a scientific organisation require ever more sophisticated leadership skills. The Academic Leadership Course and the Academic Teaching Course prepare professors and senior lecturers for positions as Scientific Director, Director of Education and Dean.
